The research paper "Using Mobile Data to Monitor Tourism Flows" presented by Miriam Scaglione (ITO) and co-authored by Rodolfo Baggio (Bocconi University), Jean-Philippe Tabichet (HES-SO Geneva) and Pascal Favre (ITO), was chosen as the second best research paper at the “3rd Advances in Destination Management” Conference at the Vail Marriott Mountain Resort (CO, USA). The research project, supported by the Economy & Management competence network of the HES-SO, uses an anonymised and aggregated Swisscom pilot set of data.

The conference was organised by the University of St. Gallen and co-hosted by Virginia Tech. The first prize was awarded to Thomas Steiner (Fribourg Tourism) for his research project “Lean Destination Management”. The third prize went to Stephan Reinhold et Pietro Beritelli (St. Gallen University) for their paper "Cognitive Schema of the Destination".
