Jacques-Eric Bidaux graduated in physics in1983 from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL). In 1988, he received his PhD from EPFL for his thesis on damping anomalies related to martensitic transformation. From 1988 he worked at the Centro Atomico Bariloche in Argentina on the stabilisation of martensite in copper based alloys. In 1991, he joined the Laboratory of Polymer and Composite Technology of the EPFL where he developed the use of shape-memory alloys as embedded actuators in composites. From November 1997 to July 1998 he was invited scientist at the Max Planck Institute für Metallforschung in Stuttgart Germany. Since 1998, he is professor of materials science and technology at the University of Applied Sciences Western Switzerland in Sion, Valais. His research activities are in the area of powder technology, tape casting, powder injection moulding and the application of shape-memory alloys in space systems, medical devices and microtechnology. He is author or coauthor of more than 70 publications and 3 patents.
