Biotechnology ans Sustainable Chemistry

Industrial White Biotechnology requires new processes and tools for the production of renewable chemicals. An interdisciplinary team of biotechnologists, chemists, mechanical engineers, electronics engineers, computer scientists, and economists addressed this challenge. One of the core products engineered is a microwave barrel reactor implemented in bio-lubricant production (Green Chem. 2012, 14, 2337). This novel tool is proposed to lower energy consumption and production costs. Also, a range of green solvents known as ionic liquids performed in particular as co-catalyst in biocatalysis. Market analyses led to business models and guided the project execution. New products and tools are available as innovation inducers.
