Production of candidate materials for biomedical applications and evaluation of their biocompatibility

The goal of the project is the production of candidate materials for biomedical applications by metal injection moulding (Institute Systems Engineering) and the evaluation of their biocompatibility (Institute Life Technologies). MIM specimens will be elaborated on stainless steel 316L, Ti Grade 4 (dense & porous), Ti6Al4V, Ti-Nb alloys and NiTi shape memory alloys. Sintered specimens will be prepared to a specific surface roughness for ISO10993 biocompatibility tests, citotoxicity tests and ion release evaluation by ICP-EOS techniques. Cell growth on surfaces and ingrowth in pores will be observed by SEM.
