Development of a miniature device to measure the optical transmission of fluids

gemCalas_vignette

The miniaturisation and the connectivity of measurement systems are increasingly important today, as they allow the immediate collection and centralisation of data independently of the measurement location.

This concept forms the basis of the LabCard prototype which was developed to measure the sugar content of liquids.

The basic functions of the device will now be developed to analyse the transmission spectrum of liquids. To this end, a sensor has to be integrated into the device. The aim of this project is to carry out this new development.

The spectrum analysis of liquids is carried out by light beams with different wavelengths, whose intensity decreases when they traverse the liquid to be analysed. This decrease is measured by a photodiode which analyses the decrease of intensity for every wavelength.

This new device has various applications that range from the analysis of pollutant substances in water to the simple measurement of the colour of a liquid such as grape juice or wine.
