Rahel Caliesch completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Physiotherapy in 2011 at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Western Switzerland Valais-Wallis in Leukerbad. Since completion of her studies, she worked as physiotherapist in various private practices mainly in the musculoskeletal field. At the same time, she completed a diploma in sports physiotherapy in Magglingen (spt education). In 2018, she completed a Master’s degree at the Bern University of Applied Sciences (Berner Fachhochschule BFH), Department of Health Professions in Bern, Switzerland. As part of this degree, she specialized in musculoskeletal physiotherapy and reached the OMT (orthopaedic manual therapy) title. Currently, she is working at the Section of Physiotherapy of the School of Health Sciences HES-SO Valais Wallis in Leukerbad as a senior academic associate (adjointe scientifique) and a part-time PhD student.
Her PhD is focused hip impingement and micro-instability of the hip. The aim of Rahel’s project is to investigate why some athletes with a hip impingement suffer from pain while others do not. The project is a product of international collaboration and is co-supervised by Prof. Jan Taeymans from the Department of Health Professions of the University of Applied Sciences in Bern and Prof. David Beckwée from the Department of Physiotherapy of the Vrije Universiteit in Brussels.
Regarding professional activity, Rahel is a member of the Swiss Association of Physiotherapy (Physioswiss) and the Swiss Association of Orthopaedic Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy (SVOMP).
