Success for the online edition of the Swiss Symposium in Point-of-Care Diagnostics 2020
Thursday 05 November 2020 17:54

The team led by Prof. Marc Emil Pfeifer of the HEI (HES-SO Valais-Wallis) and Dr Dieter Ulrich of the CSEM brought together scientists, doctors, industry representatives, experts and international researchers from various disciplines for an online symposium. The one-day event provided the opportunity to take stock of the latest developments in diagnostic tests for COVID-19.

Dr Matthias Essenpreis, CTO of Roche Diagnostics, provided an insight into the perspectives offered by the combination of diagnostic tests and smartphone apps.

Dr Jonathan S. Gootenberg and Dr Omar O. Abudayyeh of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) are currently working with CRISPR-Cas technology, which has been awarded the 2020 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. They demonstrated how these genetic scissors can be used to develop a new rapid test for COVID-19 detection.

Dr Michel Rossier, Head of Laboratories at the Valais Hospital, talked about his experiences during the current health crisis and confirmed the potential of rapid tests to contain the spread of the virus in the country.

The programme also included discussion panels and poster elevator pitch sessions. We would like to thank all speakers for their contributions and congratulate the organising team on the success of the event.
