Friday June 13th 2016, Albert Brugués de la Torre defended successfully his PhD thesis at the Applied Intelligent Systems Lab (AISLab) of the Institute of Information Systems in Sierre. Dr Bruguès was awared an Excellent Cum Laude qualification by the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC – BarcelonaTech) for his thesis entitled Contributions to Interoperability, Scalability and Formalization of Personal Health Systems

Summary

The aim of the thesis is to define a state-of-the-art Personal Health System by tackling together different challenges. We achieve interoperability by generating CDA documents that encode the health status of the patient concerning physiological values and alerts. We focus on the scalability by developing the MAGPIE agent platform, which is used to perform the reasoning for monitoring the patients on their personal devices and provide alerts on their health status. We address the formalization by providing an application where the medical doctors can define, in a graphical way, the monitoring rules used in MAGPIE to monitor the patient. The thesis also explores different ways to exchange the health information collected by the system.
