Create, Connect, Grow... that was the theme of ICT2013, that had place in Vilnius on November 6-8 in Vilnius. Selected out of 270 proposals, COMMODITY12 was one of the 155 projects that were selected to showcase the latest findings in advanced research, technologies, new systems, innovation in services & business and ICT products, just coming on the market.

The COMMODITY12 project empowers diabetic patients with means to monitor their condition. The project integrates sensors with portable devices, such as mobile phones, and a care management system complemented with  artificially intelligent functionality.  Sensors capture medically relevant parameters such as glucose, blood pressure, weight, breathing, ECG, heart rate and activity. These parameters are then communicated via a device, such as a mobile phone, to the artificially intelligent component, which in turn can combine them with data in the care management system to generate alerts and advice to doctors and patients alike. Example topics for alerts and advice include hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia, treatment adjustment and sleep apnoea early detection, as well as prevention of cardiovascular comorbidities.

Being almost ready for trial, the team of COMMODITY12 gave a live demo at ICT2013. The demo was presented by means of a mobile phone and a bio-harness (a set of sensors) that could communicate with the phone. It showed how sensors monitor the patients’ medically relevant parameters, how the values of these parameters are registered in the system and how alerts are sent to the doctor and the patient.

Over 5000 researchers, innovators, entrepreneurs, industry representatives, young people and politicians were getting together in Vilnius for the conference, the exhibition and for networking. A lot of them were interested to see how the COMMODITY12 system helps diabetes patients to be better treated.
