The Direction of the HES-SO Valais-Wallis has decided to appoint Mrs. Miriam Scaglione as professor emeritus UAS as of March 1, 2022

Having retired, this title is given to her because of the many years she has devoted to the development of research and her contribution to the outreach and promotion of the image of the HES-SO Valais.

Professor Miriam Scaglione, who holds Swiss, Italian and Argentinean nationalities, also holds a doctorate in Sciences and a Master in Statistics (University of Neuchâtel), a «DEA en Sciences Cognitives (École des hautes études en sciences sociales, Paris)» and a degree in Scientific Computing. She has led numerous projects for the Institute of Tourism, in parallel with her teaching activities at Bachelor's and Master's levels. Her research fields include forecasting methods for tourism and transportation as well as big data analysis, in particular applied to the study of visitor flows. In the field of e-tourism, she has developed her expertise in the diffusion of innovation. 

She has received several international awards and prizes for her publications and work, including in 2020 the "Hannes Werthner Tourism and Technology Lifetime Achievement Award" given by IFITT - International Federation for IT and Travel&Tourism. This award is given to an individual from academia, industry or government who has made significant contributions to the advancement in the field of tourism and technology. 

The Institute of Tourism is very pleased and proud to count Professor Scaglione among its members and looks forward to continuing to benefit from her expertise in the coming years through this appointment as an honorary professor.
