NASA’s SSERVI has partnered with Switzerland, welcoming the University of Bern, HES-SO, University of Zurich, ETH Zürich | Space, and other Swiss universities as new affiliate members. This collaboration, known as CHEESE, enhances Swiss contributions to Moon and solar system exploration. Swiss researchers will join SSERVI U.S. teams and international partners in advancing space science, exploration, and education.

The consortium, enhanced by the collaboration of its partners across Switzerland, from the University of Applied Sciences Western Switzerland (HES-SO) is led by Prof. Andrea Guerrieri, chair for the on-board computing.

Prof. Guerrieri has authored numerous research papers and books on these topics and presented his work at prestigious international venues. His research group excels in the efficient use of adaptive computing resources, such as reconfigurable Systems on Chips and FPGAs. Recently, he published a paper on integrating a quantum chip for a space camera at the IEEE Space Mission Challenge for Information Technology in Silicon Valley, in collaboration with the Advanced Quantum Architecture laboratory of EPFL. Additionally, he is leading a collaboration with DPhi Space on democratizing access to space and with California State University Pomona for space robotics at JPL. He presented his work at the IEEE Space Computing Challenges at the NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View, California, USA.
