Initiation and monitoring of non-invasive ventilation in hospitalized and non-hospitalized patients

Ventilation Non Invasive

Non-invasive ventilation is an indispensable tool for the treatment of patients presenting with acute respiratory failure presenting at an emergency department; but there is a lack of homogeneity of protocols and regulation of policies about

a) the use of NIV within and outside the intensive care units and

b) training programmes (Hill 2009, Esquinas, Groff et al. 2014).

Furthermore, there exists, to our knowledge, no overview on how the non-invasive ventilation is used in Swiss hospitals and how its initiation, instruction, monitoring and adaptation of the settings/parameters is organized, regulated and coordinated be-tween the different medical and health professionals. Therefore, we set out to increase the knowledge on the use, the regulation, the monitoring and adaptation of the parameters of non-invasive ventilation in the acute care by the means of an online survey. We will invite all emergency departments, intermediate cars, internal medicine wards as well as the nursing and physiotherapy departments in the German, French and Italian part of Switzerland to participate in the anonymous online survey.
