Valais wants to break the clichés about its image and focus on research and innovation. Driven by numerous cantonal initiatives and quality higher education provided by the HES-SO Valais-Wallis, the canton has developed into a number of centres of expertise: from biotechnology to energy and digital health.

As an example, the Megane Pro project, led by the Research Institute of Information Systems of the HES-SO Valais-Wallis. The latter aims to enable amputees to control their "robotic" prosthesis as effectively as possible thanks to electrodes placed around the arm. The prototype developed in Sierre facilitates the understanding of the daily movements of amputees.
