The Axe Santé de la HES-SO Valais-Wallis is organising a Health Tech Lunch on the theme of housing for senior citizens on 24 November 2020 from 11am to 12pm online.

Professor Lara Allet will speak to present one of her projects.

Title: Habitat Seniors: adapting housing for the elderly

Abstract

A significant number of older people live in housing that is not adapted to the reduced mobility or sensory abilities inherent in old age. This constitutes barriers to their remaining at home.

The Habitat Seniors project (ADGA, Adaptation Du logement au Grand Âge) aims to adapt existing housing to promote the independence of older people, improve their quality of life and reduce health risks, including falls. This project has the particularity of being interdisciplinary; it associates two universities of the HES-SO, the Haute école de Santé Valais Wallis and the Haute école du paysage, d'ingénierie et d'architecture (HEPIA-Genève). In concrete terms, the researchers' mission is to identify - through 15 interventions spread across the cantons of Vaud, Valais and Geneva - the best possible development possibilities, taking into account technical, economic and health aspects.

The aim is not to draw up a list of standardised interventions, but to meet the needs and expectations of the older people concerned. Researchers work together with the inhabitants to find a set of relevant and financially accessible facilities that take into account their state of health, quality of life, environment and independence. The researchers are then responsible for steering the work and assessing its impact on the health, quality of life and independence of the inhabitants.
