Life Sciences Engineering
Life Sciences Engineering
A fourth option is now available to you in the Life Sciences Engineering degree programme:
Discover and master many aspects of the life sciences through the prism of digitalisation and choose to specialise in either biotechnology, food technology and biotechnology, or analytical and bioanalytical chemistry.
With its 4 majors, the Life Sciences Engineering degree programme now offers you the chance to study biotechnology, food technology and biotechnology, analytical and bioanalytical chemistry, or the digitalisation of these life sciences.
Studying for a Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences Engineering at the School of Engineering will provide you with all the key tools you need to shape the Life Sciences of tomorrow!
Develop and take part now thanks to the new major, Digital Life Sciences, in the digitalization of innovative and sustainable technologies in the fields of health, environment, food and industry!
This programme, unique in Switzerland, trains top-level Life Sciences engineers capable of meeting the challenges of the living world in a cutting-edge technological environment.
This 3-year Bachelor of Science (180 ECTS) offers several options for personalising your path in Life Sciences Engineering:
The Life Sciences Engineering degree programme, formerly known as Life Technologies, is further expanding with the recent addition of the new Digital Life Sciences major. The development of knowledge and technologies in life sciences, like many other fields, is now being driven by digitalisation. Whether it's optimising processes through automation, visualising and interpreting data, modelling complex biological or technological systems, understanding the foundations of machine learning or artificial intelligence, the Digital Life Sciences major provides the expertise needed to make progress in a world that is becoming increasingly digital.
If you're interested, don't hesitate to visit the Digital Life Sciences page for more information. If you're already interested, sign up here!
The part time training allows you to work in parallel to your studies or to do other activites (up to 50%). The school has no requirements regarding this activity.
Would you like to study abroad? Bachelor thesis' can be done in collaboration with universities abroad in leading-edge countries (for example Japan, China, United States, European countries).
Have you just earned your high school degree and are interested in Life Sciences ? This degree programme is for you! You can directly enroll for the 4 year Life Sciences Engineering degree programme. After your first or second year, you will do a 12 month intership which will allow you to put the theory learned in class into practice.
You wish to study in French ? All the majors allow it.
You wish to study in German ? It's possible for the Biotechnology major and Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry major. The Food technology and Biotechnology as well as the Digital Life Sciences majors are available as bilingual degree programmes.
You wish to earn a bilingual degree ? All the majors allow it!
The last year of studies for all majors is taught in English to prepare you to a professional life or a Master's degree.
Being close to our industries and having many academic partners, a new study plan with a stronger focus on practice, business cases, and project-based learning has been put in place. This involves a curriculum that encourages creativity and innovation, inviting students to develop their interpersonal skills to prepare them for the professional world.
It was also important for us to incorporate sustainability training into the new curriculum. A majority of the research carried out on the Energypolis campus is centered on this theme because it is undeniably the most important one at the moment. A solid base is created in the first year with a course dedicated to sustainability in the life sciences and is implemented throughout the student's studies with the incorporation of this notion in all existing courses, practicals and projects.
