PhD Candidate in Solar Bioelectric Systems Research

Position description

The laboratory of Prof. Fabian Fischer at the Institute of Life Technologies is looking for a motivated bioelectric systems specialist with a Master's degree in microbiology, semi-conductors, photo-electrochemistry or similar combinations.

The candidate will work in a new laboratory with state-of-the-art equipment. The work will cover both basic and applied research, with the prospect of publishing in leading journals.

We offer a position in a dynamic working environment in a beautiful part of Switzerland. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a dual partner project with HES-SO and EPFL (please note that the successful candidate will need to be approved by the Doctoral School of EPFL).

Your profile

  • Master's degree with a strong background in chemical and biotechnical engineering.
  • Experience in bioelectronic data analysis, working with microbial and photobiological cultures, use of a potentiostat, understanding of kinetics, use of advanced microscopy and use of light as an energy source.
  • Enthusiastic team player who enjoys working with bioelectronic systems specialists, materials scientists, photobiologists and biotechnologists.
  • Ability to work independently and see project tasks through to completion.
  • Genuine interest in scientific writing.
  • In addition to English, a good knowledge of French and/or German is an advantage.
