Smart Infrastructure

Infrastructures like energy grids, roads, or water management systems are today equipped with more and more ICT infrastructure to make them smart. In the SI-Lab we are convinced that what takes the infrastructure in particular smart is the intelligent use of these new technologies. This value creation is done by the software is obtained by processing information and sending the control signals. The smart infrastructure pyramid shown below, indicate this observation that the value creation (Y-axe) rises by the use of more advanced software, while equipping the infrastructure by sensors is typically what requires major investments (X-axe). Our goal in the research field of Smart Infrastructure is to valorize the potential of software, enabling the infrastructure to become smart and to use the full opportunities of the current infrastructure by equipping them with ICT.
