Murielle Richard was born in 1984. She obtained her Master of Science in Microengineering at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in 2008, with a special focus on robotics, autonomous systems, machine learning and mechanical design.

In 2012, she completed her Ph.D. in Manufacturing Systems and Robotics in the same university. Her research topics included compliant mechanisms, high-precision and industrial robotics. Her thesis proposed a new modular concept to design high-precision parallel robots, which has been applied to create a 5-degree of freedom robot showing a precision of 50 nm.

She then joined ETA Manufacture Horlogère SA, where she designed compliant mechanisms for manufacturing and assembly systems, as well as high-precision metrology devices, some of which have been patented. Her broader activities included industrialisation of new products, development of new assembly machines and continuous improvement of production lines.

Since 2022, she is a member of the mechanical engineering group in the Institute of Systems Engineering at the HES-SO Valais-Wallis. Murielle’s research subjects focus on mechanical design, high-precision- and micro-mechanics, as well as compliant systems.
