Laurent Rapillard was born in Conthey (Switzerland) in 1977. He studied at EPFL and ETHZ and received his Master’s degree in mechanical engineering from EPFL in 2002. From 2002 to 2007 he worked in Zürich at Kuros Biosurgery. He was in charge of the development of drug delivery devices in the bone healing department. He also participated in the development of a new biopolymer used in vertebroplasty. He joined the HES-SO Valais-Wallis in September 2007 where he has been teaching statics, dynamics and finite elements in the Systems Engineering degree programme. As a member of the Systems Engineering research institute, he participated in the mechanical design of machines for hydraulics projects, the design of aerostatic bearings for a seismic platform and developed a bench to characterise the rheology of high viscosity materials (1000-106 Pa·s). With his background in the medical field, he is also able to manage projects in the field of drug extrusion.
