Dr Martin Sattelmayer has been an associate professor at the School of Health Sciences at the HES-SO Valais-Wallis since 2016. He completed his physiotherapy training in the Netherlands with a Bachelor in Physiotherapy in 2003 (Zuyd University of Applied Sciences, Heerlen, NL). He has professional experience working as a physiotherapist in various clinical settings with a focus on neurological rehabilitation. Also, in 2005 he has obtained a Master's degree in Neurological Rehabilitation from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Brussels, BE).
Martin teaches undergraduate physiotherapy students. His teaching activities mainly include modules in neurological rehabilitation and research methods modules. In 2010, he has expanded his teaching skills by obtaining a Master in Adult Education degree (Technische Universität Kaiserslautern, Kaiserslautern, GER).
In 2019, Martin has obtained a doctorate in Rehabilitation Sciences from Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh under the supervision of Dr Gillian Baer. As part of his doctorate studies, he investigated how to apply motor learning principles to improve the acquisition of procedural skills in physiotherapy education.
Martin´s research interests include the application of motor learning principles in the field of health professions education, the evaluation of complex health professions interventions and design and evaluation of assessments for procedural skills in educational and clinical settings.
