In the current demographic context of an ageing population, promoting ageing in place is vital. Ageing at home is desired by many older adults and contributes to well-being and quality of life. For this to be possible, it is essential that people have access to appropriate care, where needed, to ensure their independence and safety in the environment in which they live.
Our current research focuses on the role of physiotherapists in home care. These professionals are experts in the rehabilitation of functional activities, making them key players in home care. Their in-depth skills in assessing and re-educating activities of daily living are crucial in promoting patients' independence and safety at home.
We are currently conducting two studies on this topic in the PhysioLab. The first study takes a qualitative approach and aims to explore the role of physiotherapists in home care. Interviews have been conducted with physiotherapists and other healthcare professionals and the data collected is currently being analyzed.
The second study, quantitative, aims to identify the characteristics of physiotherapists involved in home care, gather detailed information about their activities and highlight their needs. To this end, an online survey was conducted among home care physiotherapists in Switzerland, and the data is currently being analyzed.
