Professor Miriam Scaglione has been appointed as professor emeritus by the Direction of the HES-SO Valais-Wallis as of March 1, 2022, the date on which she retired. It's the first time the School of Management has awarded this title to one of its professors. The Institute of Tourism is looking forward to continuing to benefit from her expertise in the coming years thanks to this appointment.
Miriam Scaglione (Dr. oec.) has been active as a project manager at the Institute since 2004 and has also been teaching at the School of Business Administration of the HES-SO Valais-Wallis since 2008. Between 2001 and 2004, she started as a research assistant and then as a professor for the Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne (EHL). She obtained her PhD at the University of Neuchâtel.
Her researches focused on different themes. First of all in e-tourism (web 2.0, diffusion and use of new technologies) and then on management tools and tourism observation. She has also worked on methods for the design and analysis of indirect indicators, including data from mobile telephony (big data), as well as in the development of techniques for real-time estimation of tourist flows.
