Integrating renewable energy in the distribution grid: the Key Role of PV Inverters

Inverters are used to convert DC power produced by solar panels into AC as required by the local grid. So far, PV inverters primarily harvested maximum power from the plant but if equipped with additional intelligence they could provide the grid with reactive power, compensate harmonics and stabilise the grid, thus reducing the cost of the future grid.
