Accelerating the data-driven digital transformation of the Swiss travel & tourism sector

Resilient Tourism logo

Tourism is a global phenomenon: the pandemic hit the sector very hard in Switzerland.

The pandemic accelerated the inevitable digital transformation that the sector would have to face in order to optimise local supply offerings and international demand allocation.

This Flagship has been designed to proactively respond to the challenges of digital transformation by empowering the travel sector in general with reliable data, new business models, processes and experience as well as tools for designing resilient tourism systems, while fostering the cross-fertilisation of communities of practice.

The project is managed by six research institutions (EHL Hospitality Business School, Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, University of St. Gallen, HES-SO Valais-Wallis, University of Applied Sciences of the Grisons and Icare Institute) in partnership with more than 30 Swiss travel stakeholders.

The Resilient Tourism project is built around four independent but interconnected projects and our Institute is leading the third subproject (SP3) aiming at designing resilient tourism systems in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Jessica Mottard, PhD candidate and scientific collaborator, had the opportunity to present the project and its results so far at the «Journée romande de la géoinformation» on November 14th, 2023. She has been involved in a workshop discussing the power of geodata to support economic activities. You can discover her presentation (in French): PowerPoint Presentation (georomandie.com)
