Christoph Ellert, Prof. in Physics, German, received his PhD in 1995 at the University of Freiburg, Germany, in the field of Cluster physics, in optical spectroscopy of mass selected metal clusters. From 1996 to 1999 he pursued fundamental research at the National Research Council in Ottawa, Canada, and the CEA in Grenoble and Paris working on the interaction of intense femto-second laser fields with atoms, molecules and clusters.
This experience gained in the conversion of optical energy into electronic or heavy particle degrees of freedom laid a solid foundation for the subsequent 10 years of applied R&D and quality assurance in the solar energy industry. First, for the deposition of thin TiNOx films on large area copper surfaces for the solar thermal industry in Munich, Germany. Second, for the development of reactors and processes for the deposition of thin amorphous or microcristalline silicon films on glass applying plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition at Oerlikon Solar, Switzerland, participating in the intra company startup in 2003.
Since 2010 when he joined the HES-SO Valais-Wallis in Sion, one field of interest is the application of plasma for medical and material science application, for treatment of surfaces. In addition, he continues working for solar applications based on a innovative photovoltaic power plant including storage by batteries and Power2Gas at the site of the HES-SO Valais-Wallis in Sion.
